Mission Outreach

Joplin Hope

Through our mission ministries we seek to instill hope in people,  both here in our community and throughout the world.  The following are some of our ongoing outreaches:

Food pantry –  In 2020 we have partnered with the St. George Episcopal church’s food access program.  Please visit St. George’s at 4th and Pine St. for a hot meal 4 days a week,  and a very large “grocery store” where you can get fresh food, meat, and nonperishables on Wednesdays and Saturdays.   We also coordinate with the Matchless Treasures thrift shop in town for needed clothing and household goods.

St. George Episcopal Church Community Meals Program – our church helps with the Thanksgiving Dinner,   and occasionally provides meat for the hot meals program and non-perishables and personal hygiene items for the food access program.

Presbyterian Church (USA) – We participate in the mission endeavors of the Presbytery of Denver the Synod of the Rocky Mountains and the General Assembly of our denomination through our monthly financial pledge and through the One Great Hour of Sharing special offering.  Through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance we respond financially to natural disasters throughout the world,  as well as large-scale traumatic incidents.

Uganda, AfricaCalled Christians is a ministry we support in partnership with Beverly Rich, our missionary from Leadville. Their outreaches include Sunday morning worship and weekly Bible studies, youth ministry, a pastor’s training school, the planting of churches in remote villages, and a prison ministry.

Visiting Mission Teams – First Presbyterian Church is host to many summer mission teams who stay in our youth cabin and serve in Leadville and the surrounding Lake County area. Projects have included assisting elderly residents with much-needed fix-up projects, yard cleanup, window washing, or painting around their homes. Sometimes groups have brought to Leadville VBS programs, youth retreats, and sports camps with a Bible-based theme.
